yakov-smirnoffWhat do most people think of when they hear about Russia? Russia has the best live entertainment spots in the world. From the world-famous Nutcracker Ballet to the trademark nesting dolls and warm furry hats, the Russian brand of entertainment never fails to give the audience a unique and fun experience. A Russian entertainer in the Live Entertainment Capital of the World is definitely an exciting one. Branson’s entertainment scene will be even more exciting with the addition of Yakov Smirnoff’s hilarious antics!

A lot of people may be curious on who is the new entertainer on the block. Yakov Smirnoff came to the United States from Russia in 1977 and was granted US citizenship in 1986. He previously worked as an art teacher in Ukraine, but he found his niche in the entertainment industry and just like what they say, the rest is history. He became popular for his stand-up comedic performances and word plays that shows contrast between his life in the Soviet Union and his current life in the US. Plus, the Russian accent makes him a lot more hilarious and appealing to the Branson audience. His most famous collection of jokes are the “America – What A Country!” jokes which speaks about how a first-time immigrant sees the US. His popularity enabled him to buy his very own Branson theater in 1992, and he was warmly accepted by the Branson community.

More than being a comedian, Yakov Smirnoff is much more than what the eyes can see. He is also a TV personality, freelance actor and writer, and a Broadway show creator. His show is called “As Long As We Both Shall Laugh.” With a Master’s degree in Positive Psychology, Yakov Smirnoff also teaches that subject in Drury University and Missouri State University. As a painter, he was able to paint a mural of the 9/11 tragedy. This was displayed in Yakov’s Branson theater but due to damages from the weather it was taken down. The pieces of the mural can still be found in the theater.

Yakov Smirnoff’s theater can be found south of Branson Parkway. Guests are in for a treat – and not just a comedy treat – as Yakov Smirnoff adds dinner treat to his shows. Yakov is a symbol of laughter and patriotism for the Branson community for more than two decades. Laugh along with the entire family and enjoy a Branson vacation with a touch of Yakov’s comedy.
