The Inspiration Tower – One of Branson’s Tourist Attractions

shepherd-of-the-hillsBranson is considered as a home to a lot of tourist attractions, which is the main reason why people keep on coming back to this gem in the Midwest. People choose to come to Branson no matter what time of the year it is because you will never run out of things to do here. You can have a grand time anytime because of the endless activities and attractions that choose no  season or month to give you a world-class experience.

One of the most visited tourist attractions in Branson is Shepherd of the Hills. People come here to visit many attractions, and one of these is the Inspiration Tower. The Inspiration Tower is the second highest point in Missouri, so once you are up here, you can have a 360 degree view of the entire city of Branson. On a clear day, you can even see all the way across the state line into Arkansas. In any location in Branson, you can also sight the Inspiration Tower. This 230-foot tower is certainly a must-visit attraction in Branson.

With the aim of commemorating the 100th anniversary of Harold Bell Wright’s first visit to the Shepherd of the Hills Homestead, the Inspiration Tower was built in 1989. Wright is the author of the book Shepherd of the Hills, and the spot where the Inspiration Tower stands right now is his very first campsite on the homestead. Wright has found the scenery in that same spot to be inspiring, thus the Tower was named as such, hoping to also inspire the guests of the tower.

The construction of the Inspiration Tower in the Shepherd of the Hills Homestead was a huge project. The total cost for the construction was roughly $1.5 million. The tower weighs 3 million pounds, with more than 92,000 pounds of structural steel. The glass installed in the tower was also enough to cover a third of a football field. The tower is sturdy enough to withstand even the strongest gusts of wind, too.

Once you are in Shepherd of the Hills, you can take a ride in one of the glass elevators that will bring you to the observation deck. And mind you, the ride is a thrilling experience on its own already! The Inspiration Tower is open to visitors all year round, from 9 AM to 5 PM. After your time at the observation deck, you can always enjoy a good snack from the snack shop at the bottom. There is also a specialty gift shop where you can buy tower themed souvenirs and other Shepherd of the Hills items.
