Explosions of Fun at the Shepherd of the Hills

These various events that feature exciting activities and adventures await visitors who want to enjoy a unique experience at the Shepherd of the Hills Festival. Some of these exciting events at the Shepherd of the Hills Festival include the Homestead Tour, Horseback Trail Rides, Vigilante Extreme ZipRider, and Outdoor Drama.

The Homestead Tour at the Shepherd of the Hills gives visitors a chance to hop on a jeep-drawn tram for a guided tour of the homestead. The tour visits the original home of main characters from The Shepherd of the Hills book which is known as Old Matt’s Cabin. This home still stands in its original location made of log cabin. The tour also includes a visit to the Inspiration Point, a monument that marks the spot where author Harold Bell Wright camped while compiling the notes for the Shepherd of the Hills. The six main characters of the Shepherd of the Hills book have carved statues that stand on Inspiration Point.

Another wonderful and exciting event at the Shepherd of the Hills is the Horseback Trail Rides. This 30- minute horseback ride will take you through the historic homestead and to some of the same trails the Baldknobbers ride. See The Trail Nobody Knows How Old, the majestic Ozark hills, and ride down in the Holler, all of these are in the beautiful shade of the Ozark woods. This exciting event gives you the chance to ride a real show horse. This horseback trail rides only allow 7 years old or older and at least 4 feet tall and no more than 250 lbs.

Outdoor Drama at the Shepherd of the Hills is another great event that will really give a unique entertainment to visitors of all ages. Harold Bell Wright’s epic story of love, power, loss, hardship, and the true meaning of life is dramatized every night on the star-lit stage. This outdoor drama involves 80 actors and actresses, 40 horses, several guns and rifles, an actual burning of log cabin, a flock of sheep, and a vintage 1908 DeWitt automobile that can make you travel back in time.

If you want to seek a picturesque view of the Ozark mountains with a thrilling ride, you’ve gotta take a ride of your life with the Vigilante Extreme ZipRider. This half mile long ride, a speed of 50 mph on a 170 feet height really sums up a very exciting and thrilling experience.
