Silver Dollar City – You’ve Got A Great Past Ahead of You!

Silver Dollar City is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the Midwest. Located near Branson, Missouri, it has been entertaining people since 1960 by combining a family-oriented amusement park with an 1880s-themed craft village. With featuring dozens of thrill rides and attractions, scores of demonstrating craftsmen, 40 entertaining shows, 60+ unique shops and restaurants and six annual festivals, it has become an annual destination for many families.

Silver Dollar City’s season runs from mid-March through December 31st offering people many exciting and fun things to do along the way. There are over 30 rides and attractions in the park including world class roller coasters, steam engine train rides, Giant swings and water shoot-out rides. There are also six entertainment venues in the park where more than 40 shows per day are available. These free shows typically last from 20 to 25 minutes and provide some relaxation from the excitement of the park.

day one will find over 100 craftsmen and women demonstrating crafts that were an essential part of life in the 1880s. Tourists can watch blacksmiths at work and glassblowers turn a piece of glass into a lovely vase and even cooks making homemade soap.

Speaking of food, there are 12 restaurants in the park featuring Ozark country cooking for every taste. In fact, “Amusement Today” magazine rated Silver Dollar City’s food the best theme park food in America. Some restaurants in the park include Eva and Delilah’s Bakery, located just inside the entrance; Aunt Pollys, known for its fried chicken and catfish; Buckshot Annie’s Skillet Cookery, known for its harvest succotash and The Ribhouse, known for its famous barbecue, baby back ribs, smoked chicken and smoked brisket. There is also plenty of ice cream and funnel cakes for dessert; making the food, alone, worth the trip.

Silver Dollar City has many festivals to entertain tourists throughout the year. The season starts out with World-Fest, a celebration of international diversity. In May, there is a Bluegrass and BBQ Festival. June through August is National Kids Fest for the young and young at heart. Late August through early September features the Southern Gospel Picnic. The National Harvest Festival Time runs from mid-September to late October. November and December welcomes the Old Time Christmas festival. With over 4 million lights illuminating Silver Dollar City, the Old Fashion Christmas is one of the country’s best holiday experiences and a necessary part of any Branson Christmas vacation.

With its many rides, shows, craftspeople, fabulous food and festivals, Silver Dollar City provides visitors with a vast array of reasons to return year after year. There is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy and foods to satisfy, as well.
