Branson Welcomes Back the Southern Gospel Picnic

For over 50 years, Branson MO has been a destination known for live music, shows, theater and performances of all kinds. In fact, Branson is often called the Live Music Capital of the World because of its tremendous musical history. Now Branson is proud to present an event that features the music that made the Ozarks famous – The Silver Dollar City Southern Gospel Picnic.

Visitors to Silver Dollar City can enjoy the Southern Gospel Picnic from Thursday, August 25 until Monday, September 5, 2011 in the popular Silver Dollar City theme park. Billed as the biggest gospel picnic in the world, many visitors consider the lineup to be the greatest collection of gospel performers ever – both local and international. The performance lineup includes many well known gospel singers including Jeff & Sheri Easter and Karen Peck & New River, and each evening of the festival concludes with a performance of Southern Gospel Nights in the often packed Echo Hollow Amphitheater.

Event organizers have not forgotten about the picnic in Southern Gospel Picnic either. In addition to uplifting music, guests can enjoy traditional southern cooking and dishes at many locations around the park. One of the most popular food spots is the House of Chicken & Fixins’ located at Reunion Hall on the Silver Dollar City Square. Here, visitors enjoy a log-cabin setting where they can choose among dishes such as traditional southern fried chicken, apple butter glazed chicken, slow-cooked smoked, pulled pork and numerous side dishes.

Visitors can do more than eat food as well, with the Silver Dollar City Culinary & Craft School that runs during the festival. At the school guests can observe as Master Craftsmen of Culinary Arts share their favored recipes and techniques in a modern and innovative kitchen. Along with unique and tasty recipes, attendees will also learn useful kitchen tricks and tips to save time and money. Each class charges a small attendance fee that covers supplies and instruction.

Gospel Music fans are encouraged to visit Branson during this week and a half long festival featuring entertainment, food and educational opportunities. Many local resorts are offering affordable rates during the festival. Thousand Hills Resort, located not far from Silver Dollar City, is one of these providers offering festival guests log cabins and nightly condo rentals. Due to the popularity of the Southern Gospel Picnic and other festivals at Silver Dollar City, visitors are encouraged to make lodging reservations early.
