Everyone loves saving money. That is why we clip coupons, shop sales, drive bargains, and bundle our insurance. Saving money is an important way to build wealth, prepare for an emergency or an unexpected bill or auto repair, and set an example for your family. While saving money is responsible and awesome, you don’t want to skimp on fun family and social activities. Luckily for all you penny pinchers out there, Branson, Missouri, the Live Entertainment Capital of the Midwest, has some very cool activities that you can enjoy for free! And what better way to save money than that?

Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery: While this stop on your Branson activities list is a little ‘fishy,’ it is certainly free! This interesting and educational facility offers visitors self-guided and conducted tours through the nature center/museum (filled with information about the trout that are raised at the hatchery and then released into Lake Taneycomo) and the outdoor concrete raceway area (filled with – what else- fish!). You can get up close and personal with the trout that are raised here, and even feed them from one of the on-site fish food stations.

Stone Hill Winery: If you like local and you like wine, or perhaps both, take a free tour of the Branson Stone Hill Winery! These free tours offer guests a firsthand look at the complex process of creating and aging fine wines. You’ll see a short film giving the history of the business, followed by a look around the Sherry room, where the sherry is baked and aged, and then take a look at how the finished wine is bottled. The tour ends with free tasting of Stone Hill’s wines – plus grape juice for the kids!

College of the Ozarks: A trip to this unique college should definitely be on your list of free Branson activities! Take a stroll around the beautifully landscaped campus, and gaze of the shores of Lake Taneycomo at Point Lookout. Check out the on-campus dairy, where the school’s herd of Holstein cows are milked daily; follow that with a tour of the gardens, where the produce that is sold at the C of O Farmers Market is grown. Edwards Mill offers free tours and demos of weaving, basket making and grinding flour. Don’t forget to stop in at the Keeter Center for some samples of their delicious ice cream!

Dewey Short Visitor Center: Just across the lake from the Table Rock Dam, the Dewey Short Visitor Center is often referred to as the crown jewel of Table Rock Lake. Lake Activities for Every Taste

One of the highlights of Branson, Missouri, the Live Entertainment Capital of the Midwest is undoubtedly the lakes. Branson is not often referred to as ‘the Branson/Tri-Lakes area for nothing’ – there are indeed three great lakes here that make Branson even more exciting than it is already! Table Rock Lake (named after a large, flat rock structure on the lake shore), Lake Taneycomo (short for Taney County Missouri) and Bull Shoals (part of this lake is also located in Arkansas) are all loaded with opportunities for you to get adventurous – no matter what your tastes are, there is a lake and some Branson lake activities for you to enjoy!

Table Rock Lake: Table Rock Lake has loads of fun activities, whether you are a local who heads to the lake often, or a visitor who only stops by once or twice a year. Table Rock Lake is best known for its awesome fishing – in fact, there are nationally recognized bass fishing tournaments held here annually! Whether you are a tournament fisherman, or just like to sit on the shore and dangle a line, the fish are always biting in the waters of Table Rock. Table Rock Lake also boasts a state park complete with its own marina with boats for hire, a boat dock, hiking trails, and picnic areas. And if swimming is your thing, you will want to check out Moonshine Beach – it’s the only place in the Ozarks with sand!

Lake Taneycomo: While Lake Taneycomo might be a little cold for diving in and taking a swim, there are plenty of other great Branson lake activities to enjoy here. Instead of donning a swimming suit, grab some waders instead and partake in some of the best trout fishing around! Lake Taneycomo is home to rainbow and brown trout, and the cooler water temperatures make it the perfect habitat for these sought after fish. Lake Taneycomo also has the benefit of being the host body of water to the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery! Not only is it a great place to explore and learn about the trout, the lake and the surrounding area and wildlife, but it makes the fishing right below the dam pretty good too…

Bull Shoals: For a really unique activity, how about going IN the lake instead of on or beside it? That’s right, for the REALLY adventurous lake goers, Bull Shoals Lake offers some of the most unique scuba dive tours around. At the Bull Shoals Lake Boat Dock, you can take a scuba diving class from P.A.D.I certified trainers, take a daytime OR nighttime guided boat diving trip, and even learn how to become a search and recovery scuba diver! The Presley’s – Branson’s First Show On The Strip

Plan Your Branson Vacation

Branson, Missouri, the Live Entertainment Capital of the Midwest, has quite a bit of originality layered with history almost anywhere you look around the town. Take Silver Dollar City, for example – this original theme park got its start as a show to keep folks waiting to visit Marvel Cave entertained. Today, it is a multi-million dollar amusement park with thousands of visitors from all over every year! Branson is full of venues like these – including Presley’s Country Jubilee, Branson’s first show on the strip!

presleys-bransonPresley’s Country Jubilee has been inspiring music, laughter and repeat fans for decades – this is one original Branson show you certainly don’t want to miss while you’re in town. If you like country, gospel, dancing and knee slapping comedy, this is the show for you! Presley’s Country Jubilee is located at 2920 76 Country Blvd in Branson, also known as The Strip. You can’t miss the theater that houses this great show – it has become a landmark in the Branson area! But the Presley’s didn’t start in a theater…they got their show business start in a cave!

The Presley’s are an Ozark’s born and bred clan from the very beginning – this musically talented family began playing bluegrass for their neighbors inside caves – and imagine how great the acoustics were! The popularity of the Presley’s family show in the caves grew until they ran out of room in their underground stages – so in 1967, they built themselves a brand new theater to wow the crowds. It just happened to be the first live music theater in Branson; and if you look around the town today, it seems that the Presley’s started a trend!

From caves to a state of the art theater, Presley’s Country Jubilee has gained a wealth of fans – including those who tune in to RFD-TV every week to watch the show that is broadcast worldwide! This original Branson show is a cumulative effect of bluegrass, country and gospel music, coupled with dancing and instrumental talent, charming costumes and hilarious comedy, all provided by Branson’s favorite family! Don’t miss your chance to see the show that Springfield News-Leader calls ‘the standard by which all other shows are judged.’ Tickets for the Presley’s Country Jubilee can be booked in advance over the phone, or online at Be sure to ask about season passes, because once you see this great original show once, you will want to see it again and again!

The Presley’s Country Jubilee is one of those great Branson venues steeped in both history and originality. So for a real taste of Branson, this is the show to see.

Don’t Miss Out on Yakov Smirnoff While in Branson

Plan Your Branson Vacation

What do most people think of when they hear about Russia? Russia has the best live entertainment spots in the world. From the world-famous Nutcracker Ballet to the trademark nesting dolls and warm furry hats, the Russian brand of entertainment never fails to give the audience a unique and fun experience. A Russian entertainer in the Live Entertainment Capital of the World is definitely an exciting one. Branson’s entertainment scene will be even more exciting with the addition of Yakov Smirnoff’s hilarious antics!

A lot of people may be curious on who is the new entertainer on the block. Yakov Smirnoff came to the United States from Russia in 1977 and was granted US citizenship in 1986. He previously worked as an art teacher in Ukraine, but he found his niche in the entertainment industry and just like what they say, the rest is history. He became popular for his stand-up comedic performances and word plays that shows contrast between his life in the Soviet Union and his current life in the US. Plus, the Russian accent makes him a lot more hilarious and appealing to the Branson audience. His most famous collection of jokes are the “America – What A Country!” jokes which speaks about how a first-time immigrant sees the US. His popularity enabled him to buy his very own Branson theater in 1992, and he was warmly accepted by the Branson community.

More than being a comedian, Yakov Smirnoff is much more than what the eyes can see. He is also a TV personality, freelance actor and writer, and a Broadway show creator. His show is called “As Long As We Both Shall Laugh.” With a Master’s degree in Positive Psychology, Yakov Smirnoff also teaches that subject in Drury University and Missouri State University. As a painter, he was able to paint a mural of the 9/11 tragedy. This was displayed in Yakov’s Branson theater but due to damages from the weather it was taken down. The pieces of the mural can still be found in the theater.

Yakov Smirnoff’s theater can be found south of Branson Parkway. Guests are in for a treat – and not just a comedy treat – as Yakov Smirnoff adds dinner treat to his shows. Yakov is a symbol of laughter and patriotism for the Branson community for more than two decades. Laugh along with the entire family and enjoy a Branson vacation with a touch of Yakov’s comedy.

For your Branson vacation, make sure that you get to stay in a place that makes everything more convenient for you. No other place to go to but in Thousand Hills Hotel and Golf Resort.
