One of the homegrown artists of Branson is the Presleys family. The Presleys are one of the most watched performers in Branson, and they are also considered to be one of the pillars of Branson entertainment. The Presleys were the first to open a theater in Highway 76. Lloyd Presley, the skilled guitarist, was the one who brought the Presleys into the entertainment scene. He began playing in downtown Branson at such a young age and landed in the Branson Beacon in the 1960s. Lloyd has a son, Gary, who is also skilled in comedy. Gary created Herkimer, a character that the audience can’t help but love in the Presley shows. From the Fantastic Caverns in Springfield to the Underground Theater in Kimberling City to the caves of Branson, Lloyd and Gary Presley continued to awe their audience and gained following. It was in 1967 when the Presleys acquired a piece of land, and this piece of land would be the site of the first ever live music theater in Branson’s Highway 76. Since then, lots of theaters have popped up in Highway 76 and it is what you see now.

The Presley’s Country Jubilee is known to be the “Original Show on the Strip”. After gaining much exposure on national television, the Presleys have been the faces of Branson entertainment. Now, you can see four generations of the Presleys who will delight you with a variety of country, gospel, and bluegrass music. There is also the comedy segments of Herkimer and Cecil, and the performances from the young Presleys that will capture your hearts. Theirs is a talented family that you can rarely find, each gifted with their own musical styles – and a little humor wouldn’t hurt either.

Your visit to Branson would be made complete when you get to enjoy music, comedy, dance, and adventures rolled into one. Come and watch a show of the Presleys. Being entertainers runs in their blood and for generations to come, the quality of entertainment that the Presleys can give is unparalleled. Catch their shows from March to December. Learn the History of the Ozarks in Branson

Branson is a very attractive vacation destination for many different kinds of people. The summer tourist season brings in families, school and club groups, corporate vacationers, photographers, naturalists, fishermen and women, adrenaline junkies, foodies, foreign exchange students, and of course, history buffs. Branson, Missouri, settled deep into the Ozark Hills, is rich in history and heritage. And not just natural history – many of the most famous attractions in Branson have a historical story behind them! There is some amazing history in Branson almost everywhere you look – read on for some of the area’s best historical hotspots!

Shepherd of the Hills:

Shepherd of the Hills Historical Drama

The best known historical site in Branson is the Shepherd of the Hills Historic Homestead and Old Mill Theater. This is where the famous book by Harold Bell Wright was written that drew thousands to Branson – it is the home of the town’s tourism industry! Shepherd of the Hills has grown from the place where a kind homestead couple took in a weary, traveling author, to an attraction where people from all walks of life can watch a live theater production, ride horses, tour the historic homestead, catch a glimpse of Branson from one of the highest elevations in America, and zipline at 50 miles per hour! A trip to Shepherd of the Hills is one of Branson’s most educational – and fun! – historical attractions.

Table Rock Dam:

Many people think that the Table Rock Dam is just something they drive over that holds the water in the lake. But the Table Rock Dam is so much more than that! It has a fascinating history in the role of Branson’s fishing industry. The Table Rock Dam was built in the 1950s, at the urging of Congressman Dewey Short, to alleviate the severe flooding problems along the White River. The CCC and the Army Corps of Engineers worked together to build the now famous dam. All the history can be found in the Dewey Short Visitors Center, plus you can take a tour of the inner working of the dam!

Silver Dollar City:

Silver Dollar City, one of America’s most beloved theme parks (that also happens to make a home in Branson!) is not only home to famous roller coasters, it is also home to a lot of great history in the Ozarks as well! Silver Dollar City was, at first, a side attraction for those waiting in line to tour Marvel Cave. Its popularity grew into the multi-million dollar theme park we visit today! Inside its gates, you will find historic crafts being made by 21st century craftsmen, heritage Ozarks food and music (bluegrass, anyone?), and even rides with historical themes – like Fire in the Hole! You won’t want to miss a trip to this great history filled theme park.

These are just a few of the great places in Branson where history buffs will find themselves at home. You never know what kind of historical discoveries you might make in Branson!

Branson Can Be Fun Rain or Shine - If You're Prepared!

If you have spent any time in Branson, Missouri, the Live Entertainment Capital of the Midwest, you know that the weather can change in a minute. Missouri is well known for being almost bipolar at times about the weather – it can be sixty degrees one week, and showering pellets of ice the next! If you are planning a trip to Branson in the near future, you will want to try and stay up to date on the weather – it will make packing just a little bit easier! Here is a basic guide to the weather in Branson based on the season to help you out.

Summer:

Summer is the big season in Branson – this is when most of the visitors come for their vacation. Kids are out of school, the sun is shining, and there are great summertime activities to be had in Branson! If you are coming to Branson for a warm season trip…expect heat! Missouri can reach temperatures upwards of 100 degrees in the summer – so plan accordingly. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing and shoes. Hats of any kind are excellent for keeping your face shaded. You will certainly want to bring sunglasses (and maybe a spare pair, in case you lose one!) to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays – this is especially true if you will be out on the water, where the sun’s glare is intensified. And don’t forget the sunscreen!

Once you’ve prepared for hot weather in Branson, you also should anticipate a rain shower and a cool night or two. Bring a raincoat and umbrella for those powerful thunderstorms that can crop up quick in the summer – and don’t forget a jacket and long pants for the cooler fronts that can follow!

Rainy Day in BransonFall:

Fall weather in Branson can be beautiful – crisp air, fall leaves, hot drinks, and the like. It can also be frustrating! Fall in Branson often brings cold, frosty nights and sharply cool mornings…followed by a high of 75 degrees during the day. If you will be making an autumn sojourn to the Ozarks, bring clothes that you can easily layer – that way you can stay toasty in the morning, shed layers to stay cool during the heat of the day, and re-layer at night for evening activities. A walk along the Branson Landing, anyone?

Winter:

Just like you expect heat in the summer, expect cold in the winter to be on the Branson weather forecast. Temperatures in the Ozarks can turn dangerously cold – it is not uncommon for the weather in Branson to reach 10 degrees or more below 0. Something else that winter visitors are not always prepared for is ice – Missouri sometimes gets more ice than snow. This makes walking and driving conditions VERY slick. Pack warm, insulated clothing – this includes socks and gloves. Long underwear or fleece lined leggings are also recommended. And bring sturdy soled footwear (preferably waterproof) with good tread – this can help keep you safe while walking around town.

Spring:

Spring brings cool, wet weather to Branson. Again, pack lightweight layers for cooler mornings that you can shed in case the temperature warms. Bring raincoats, umbrellas and rubber boots! April showers are notorious for popping up in the middle of an outdoor activity. It’s also a good idea to bring plenty of extra socks in case of any puddle jumping!
