Boating Safety Tips for Your Summer on Table Rock

Table Rock Lake in Branson, Missouri, is one of the most versatile (and most famous!) lakes in the Midwest. Table Rock Lake, a man-made lake created when the White River was dammed up by the construction of the Table Rock Dam to alleviate flooding problems, has a long history of being well used for outdoor recreational activities, especially during the summer months! The lake is great for fishing and swimming, and the surrounding parks and nature areas provide outstanding places to hike, camp and mountain bike with a lakeside view. And of course, what is a lake without boating? Table Rock Lake is the perfect place for summer boating – and here are some tips to keep you safe on the water!

Wear a Life Jacket:

Even if it seems a bit overdone, this is probably THE most important safety tip to comply with for any sort of boating activity. Wearing a life jacket really can save your life in the event of a boating accident. A life jacket is a personal flotation device that is designed to keep the wearer afloat in a breathable position in the water. Life jackets come in a variety of styles, colors, thicknesses and materials – so “it doesn’t match my fishing outfit” or “life jackets are uncomfortable” is NOT a valid excuse not to wear one. All states have regulations that say children must wear a life jacket while on the water, and Missouri is no different. Be sure to find one that fits your child properly before hitting the water!

Stay Hydrated:

It is no secret that it gets HOT in the summertime. So be sure to drink liquids, and plenty of them! Out on deep water in a boat is not the time you want to find yourself dehydrated or suffering from heatstroke. Pack a cooler with enough drinks to last everyone on your vessel the entire day – and don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink. If you think you might be getting dehydrated (some symptoms are dry mouth, increased thirst, dizziness, confusion and the inability to sweat), you should immediately stop your activity and find a shady spot to rest. Drink some liquids and prop your feet up until symptoms have passed.

Know Emergency Protocol:

Whether an emergency on the water occurs or not, you and your crew need to be informed of and prepared for emergency protocol. The first step is to stay calm and assess the situation. Your boat should be equipped with a GPS, so step two is to take not of your location so you can call for help – that’s step three. Before you set out on the water, you and all your passengers should have a working knowledge of your vessel’s ship to shore radio. Consider laminating and posting the radio instructions, and how to send out a MAYDAY call next to the device.

With a little planning and preventative methods, your summer of boating on Table Rock Lake can be safe, successful, and fun. Always remember – safety first!

KaPau Plummet Splashes Into White Water

It is no secret that White Water in Branson, Missouri, is one of the most popular water theme parks in the Midwest. White Water is affiliated with the famous Silver Dollar City, and is one of Branson’s most popular attractions. The hot, humid Ozarks summers send both tourists and locals alike flocking to White Water in droves. This year, it’s not just the promise of cool water, wave pools, summery music and frozen lemonade that is drawing crowds to White Water – it’s the newest thrill slide on the radar, the KaPau Plummet! Hold onto your stomach – this wet and wild thrill slide will leave you breathless!

‘Biggest in history.’ That is how the brand spanking new, $1.7 million KaPau Plummet slide is described. This thrill ride is not for the faint of heart – the enclosed but transparent side by side slides are two hundred forty feet of sheer indescribable awesomeness! Riders begin by standing in a launch capsule. After the countdown, the see through bottom of the capsule drops out from underneath the brave riders, sending them plummeting in a seventy degree free fall and rushing down the slide at twenty-six feet per second to the bottom of the ride. The transparent slide allows onlookers to watch their brave friends splash down!

The bottoming out of the slide that leads to the plunge is brand new technology for White Water – it is called the ‘AquaLaunch’ trap door. The trap door builds up massive amounts of anticipation as the riders wait for their plummet. The term ‘kapau’ is also new – it is a slang U.S. surfer term to mean the next big wave or the next big thing, pronounced KA-POW. The slide tower is a dizzying forty feet in the air, which helps riders build up speed as they plunge, and a staggering one thousand gallons per minute makes up the water flow of the slide.

The KaPau Plummet is definitely the biggest thrill in White Water history. It combines anticipation, speed, technology, and engineering genius with a whole lot of water and fun – so don’t miss out on this amazing thrill slide! Get your season passes – and your spot on the KaPau Plummet – today!

Don’t Miss a Visit to Forsyth, Missouri

By now, chances are that you know Branson, Missouri, is a great place to visit, vacation and/or live. One of the great things about Branson is that there are several surrounding towns within the Tri-Lakes region that make super stops to visit too! And Forsyth, Missouri, is one of them. Just a few miles northeast of Branson, Forsyth is a travel stop you won’t want to pass up!

Forsyth, Missouri, has a population of over 2,500 people, and is the county seat for rugged Taney County. Records show that the town was incorporated as the Village of Forsyth on December 5, 1890. In the 1950s, the future of the city of Forsyth became a little uncertain – the dam along the White River that would create Bull Shoals Lake was in the works, a move that would wipe out the little town entirely. It was decided that the city limits of Forsyth would be extended 2 miles west of the old town site (now called Shadowrock Park) to an area that had once been a golf course. Other fun historic facts about the town of Forsyth, Missouri, is that the famed jazz musician and band leader Charlie Haden was a Forsyth resident, and spent his youth growing up in the town.

Today, Forsyth is referred to as the Gateway to the Ozarks Outdoors. The town sits right on Bull Shoals Lake and Lake Taneycomo (short for Taney County Missouri), and is a prime location for fun, family oriented outdoor recreational activities like fishing, boating, hiking and hunting. Shadowrock Park (the old town site of Forsyth) is a popular place for families to play, picnic, swim, fish, camp and enjoy the outdoors on the shores of Bull Shoals Lake. The park boasts a rodeo arena and fairgrounds and is the home of the Annual Taney County Youth Fair and Livestock Show. There is also a campground at Shadowrock Park – there are tent sites with and without water and electricity, RV hookups and sites, as well as opportunities to rent the stage area, the arena, barn or pavilion areas for special events. Tennis courts and a baseball field are also located within the park for community enjoyment!

Forsyth really embodies the small town spirit, and is full of small local shops, restaurants and businesses that will woo you with their charm. If you fall in love with Forsyth enough to live there, there are many affordable real estate options both in and out of town. Forsyth has their own school district as well, if you have children in your family! There is a low crime rate in Forsyth, as well as friendly folks and fun outdoor opportunities. A visit to Forsyth, Missouri, is one you won’t want to miss out on!
