Read on for an example itinerary of what a weekend Branson vacation might look like – then use it to create your own!

Friday: Branson is within driving distance of several major U.S. cities, so if you and your family head out at a reasonably early time in the morning, you can arrive in Branson by late afternoon or early evening. Then, you can head straight to Thousand Hill’s Hotel and Golf Resort to check into a room, condo or cabin! (Traveler’s tip: booking your lodging in advance can help you save time – and time savers are a must for a weekend trip! Thousand Hill’s offers online or over the phone booking.) No matter how big or small your family is, Thousand Hills has lodging options ranging from cozy to roomy and everything in between!

Once you are all checked in, some time spent resting is always a good plan. The rooms at Thousand Hills come fully prepared for your stay with shower supplies, linens, and even washing machines and ironing boards! Roller Coasters Abound at Silver Dollar CitySaturday: With a bright and early start, you can be ready to spend a day at Silver Dollar City, one of Branson’s most famous theme parks! This old time park features rides, shows, shopping and food, and is a great attraction to spend some time at. Ride the coasters, check out the entertainment at the Red Gold Hall, and then grab some lunch at a park restaurant like the Dockside Grill, Molly’s Mill or the Lucky Silver Mine. All feature good home cooking that is sure to satisfy! (And stop by Brown’s candy shop for dessert!) After a tasty meal and some time to recharge, spend the afternoon browsing Silver Dollar City’s shops and watch the craftsmen at work.

After a day exploring Silver Dollar City, treat yourself to a nice dinner at one of the fashionable restaurants at the lakeside Branson Landing – Cantina Laredo, Waxy O’Shea’s, and the Black Oak Grill are all great choices. Round out the day with a little Landing style shopping and a twilight walk along Lake Taneycomo!

Sunday: Sundays are a great day to sleep in a little – and the luxurious condos and cabins at Thousand Hills make that easy! If you have time, be sure to make a run to Table Rock Lake State Park – it’s known for great fishing, swimming, bird watching and hiking, and is well worth a glimpse before you head home!

The Roller Coasters of Silver Dollar City

Branson, Missouri, the Live Entertainment Capital of the Midwest, is home to not only some of the nation’s best fishing and outstanding live music shows – Branson also happens to be the home of a world famous theme park! Silver Dollar City, once a simple western reenactment show to entertain waiting guests outside of Marvel Cave, is now a multi-million dollar theme park that brings modern thrills while still remembering its down home roots. One of visitors favorite things about Silver Dollar City are the roller coasters – every one of them is certainly worth a ride, if you are brave enough!

powder-keg-silver-dollar-cityOutlaw Run

Outlaw Run, Silver Dollar City’s newest roller coaster that broke worldwide records, is one of the most popular Branson thrill rides around. This wooden roller coaster was a $10 million investment for Silver Dollar City – and the thrill is worth it! This wooden coaster features over half a mile of track, and has the steepest drop of any wooden roller coaster ever – a nearly vertical 162 feet at 81 degrees plummet. Outlaw Run is also the first wooden roller coaster ever to go upside down, and it is the second fastest wooden coaster in the world. Hold onto your hats!

Powder Keg

Another Silver Dollar City thriller, Powder Keg will literally take your breath away as the ride blasts you from zero to 53 miles per hour in a mere 2.8 seconds! A 110 foot drop, G forces and floater hills all await riders as they speed through the wilderness at 64 miles per hour. This Branson thrill ride is a salute to the miners who worked in Marvel Cave – the original Branson attraction. That is why the beginning of the ride is stimulated to make riders think that a powerful blast of dynamite is responsible for the initial blast of speed!

Wildfire

For some major loops that are sure to leave you screaming, be sure to take a ride on Wildfire! This 120 foot high steel roller coaster features 5 inversions that will take your breath away – you will be flying along upside down at 66 miles per hour! Opened in 2001, Wildfire was built by a Swiss firm at $14 million. This Silver Dollar City coaster is themed as an 1880s flying machine that was built by an Ozarks inventor.

Thunderation

Despite the introduction of newer, faster roller coasters at Silver Dollar City, Thunderation remains a favorite classic of many park guests. Opened in 1993, this is one of the oldest (but still structurally sound, not to worry!) roller coasters at the theme park. Made from steel and with a height of 110 feet, this two minute long ride will get you up to bone rattling speeds of 48 miles per hour. Make sure to take a ride on this classic coaster during your visit to Silver Dollar City!

Fire in the Hole

This themed indoor roller coaster is a fun ride on a rainy day when outdoor coasters are closed – or any other day too! This three story coaster has a 20 foot drop, can reach a speed of 27 miles per hour, and has the capacity to take 1,000 people per hour on a fun ride that tells one of many stories of the Baldknobbers!

What’s Branson Known For? Live Music!

Branson, Missouri, the Live Entertainment Capital of the Midwest, is known for a lot of things – like Silver Dollar City, Tanger Outlet Malls, the Hollywood Wax Museum, and great fishing – but the city of Branson is most well-known for (and got its start from!) live music. So if you are a local, a seasonal dweller, or in town for vacation, don’t miss your chance to catch some of the great live music in Branson! It is an experience you don’t want to miss out on.

Six Show In BransonSIX: For outstanding music and unparalleled entertainment, get your tickets to see SIX, one of Branson’s favorite shows! This live music in Branson show features six brothers (the oldest of a family of ten boys!) who kicked off their musical career in 1995. They have performed over the years with greats like Diana Ross, the Doobie Brothers, Rod Stewart, Trisha Yearwood and more, and are now proud to perform in Branson. You won’t want to miss this show – it’s full of classic songs and today’s top hits!

The Texas Tenors: The Texas Tenors, as seen on PBS, are famous for their crisp and crooning vocals – and if you are planning to be in Branson around Christmastime, you will certainly want to catch their show at the Starlite Theater! Their show, ‘Deep in the Heart of Christmas,’ features their unique blend of country, gospel, Broadway and classical singing styles that have made them famous. Some of their hits include “Rocky Top,” “Unchained Melody,” “Oh Shenandoah,” and “Bless the Broken Road.” Make plans to attend their Christmas show and let Marcus Collins, John Hagen and JC Fisher show you why people love The Texas Tenors!

The Hits Staring Mary Wilson: Mary Wilson is best known for being part of the famous trio, The Supremes. And now, she’s coming to Branson! They recorded 12 No.1 hits from 1964 to 1969. With number one hits “Where Did Our Love Go,” “Baby Love,” “Come See About Me,” “Stop In the Name of Love,” and “Back in My Arms Again,” The Supremes are the only group to have five consecutive number one hits in their career. Mary Wilson was a founding member of this beloved group. Mary also recorded two solo albums while she was raising a family – talk about talented!

Presley’s Country Jubilee: The Presley’s are an Ozark’s born and bred clan from the very beginning – this musically talented family began playing bluegrass for their neighbors inside caves – and imagine how great the acoustics were! The popularity of the Presley’s family show in the caves grew until they ran out of room in their underground stages – so in 1967, they built themselves a brand new theater to wow the crowds. It just happened to be the first live music theater in Branson; and if you look around the town today, it seems that the Presley’s started a trend! You can catch the Presley Family’s awesome bluegrass tunes at Presley’s Country Jubilee on The Strip.
