History of Branson Performers – Barry Williams

Branson, Missouri, the Live Entertainment Capital of the Midwest, has had its fair share of famous folks come through to sing, dance and perform; some have even made a home in Branson! One of these famous folks is Barry Williams, best known for his role on the beloved television show, The Brady Bunch.

Barry Williams Performing the 70's Music CelebrationBarry William Blenkhorn (Barry Williams is his professional name) was born on September 30th, 1954, in Santa Monica, California, to parents Doris May Moore and Canadian born Frank Millar Blenkhorn. Barry was the youngest of three boys, and had two older brothers named Scott and Craig. Barry and his brothers grew up in Pacific Palisades, California. Having known he wanted to be an actor from a very young age, Barry landed his first role in 1967 on an episode of the television show Dragnet.

Barry Williams continued to be cast in guest roles on a host of other television shows such as Adam-12, The Invaders, That Girl, and The Scrivners. In 1969 he became the character Greg Brady on The Brady Bunch, and his career skyrocketed. The Brady Bunch ran from 1969 to 1974, and captivated millions of viewers with the antics of the fictional Brady family. After the cancellation of the show, Barry continued to appear in guest roles on television. He also took a great interest in musical theater, and became involved with shows like Grease, West Side Story and The Sound of Music. In 1988, Barry took over the leading male role in the production of Romance/Romance in Broadway alongside award winning actress Alison Fraiser.

Later in his career, Barry was able to capitalize on his type casted image of Greg Brady through several roles that played upon his teenage character, plus the holiday special A Very Brady Christmas and some Brady Bunch reunion shows. Barry also landed a role on the popular soap opera General Hospital, made guest appearances on celebrity doctor shows, and started a media networking program called The Greg Brady Project that features ongoing conversations between Barry, his fans and other celebrities.

In 2011, Barry Williams started making guest appearances at the Yakov Smirnoff Theater in Branson. He has also performed at the Hughes Brothers Theater in Branson with his variety show, 70s Music Celebration! This entertaining show features his singing and guitar playing ability along with clips, videos, and stories from his time on The Brady Bunch.
