Bald Knobbers in Branson Missouri.

Baldknobbers are Branson's Original Show.

Known in Branson musical history as the area's first show, The Baldknobbers Jamboree is pure fun family entertainment.

It all started back in 1959 when The Mabe brothers performed in downtown Branson on the lakefront and in the old City Hall with simple instruments and raw talent. Using homemade instruments like a washboard, jaw bone, a Wash Tub bass, Banjo and Dobro, the brothers entertained fishermen at Lake Taneycomo. The ladies employed old fashioned advertisement, carrying signs to invite crowds.

The Baldknobbers name originates from a 1880s Ozark vigilante group who secretly met on the tops of bald hilltops, or "bald knobbs." These Baldknobbers are mentioned in Harold Bell Wright's famous novel, The Shepherd of the Hills. The Baldknobbers also claim to be part of the original cast of the now famous Shepherd of the Hills outdoor play, and the first street band at Silver Dollar City.

When crowds could no longer be accommodated, The Baldknobbers moved their show to Branson's old skating rink, which then held 600 guests. In 1968 they built their own theater on Highway 76, where they still perform all year long and which now accommodates 1700 guests. As one of Branson's original musical families and founders of the Branson musical boom, The Baldknobbers style of pure country classics, family values, family entertainment, and Ozark humor are sought by crowds to this day.

Having this much fun can be exhausting, so plan ahead to reserve a luxurious Branson log cabin at The Cabins at Grand Mountain, or a Branson condo at Thousand Hills Golf Resort, both just minutes from The Baldknobbers. For more information call 1-800-864-4145 or make an .
